Every great story started with cocktails…

Life is like a cocktail, made up for the most part of sweet things, tinged with a dash of bitters. We must drain it to the dregs to get at the cherry, just as we must live a full and rounded life to know all its pleasures. – Edgar Guest

I love cocktails. I mean who doesn’t right? So much so I use to have a lot of cocktail party’s back in my hay day but it consisted of the same cocktail over and over again the reliable but oh so sweet strawberry daiquiri.

Having been to many bars and I was frequently let down by the quality of cocktails. The drinks didn’t taste fresh, refreshing and to often they all tasted alike. I wanted to find somewhere that excited my taste buds.

My sister had the pleasure of attending a few cocktail making classes with her work and had often told me it was something that I too had to experience and so began my search for somewhere new, something new.

First Impressions

Menu was beautifully presented.

I had heard so many great things about the Cocktail Embassy in Crystal Palace so I began to research for myself and check some reviews out. The more I researched about the bar the more I fell in love with it. The website was so simple and to the point but the menu was so intricate and unique.

Shocoata – ‘smooth, creamy and awakening’.

I decided to make a booking to see what the fuss was about and noticed that they also offered a cocktail making class. Deciding to kill 2 birds with 1 stone I mace a booking for myself and my sister.

The Venue

When you first enter the premises you will be fooled into thinking it is a small and very basic bar but when you sit down and slowly begin to relax you start to realise that from the very layout to the bar down to the glass ware everything has been carefully and expertly picked and placed.

The bar is very stylish and classy but could compete with any up town London bar.

The bar wasn’t packed when we first went there but primarily that was due to the fact our class was early in the evening.

The Staff

We were greeted by, who we later found to be, the owner of the bar Deniss. Both Deniss and his staff were friendly and experienced at their craft. The cocktail making class was conducted in their downstairs bar which later turned into a mini club.

The lesson was indepth, fun and the cocktails were amazing. The bar tender Dobrita was very friendly and very talented at his job. You could tell he thoroughly loved his job.

You can also tell that Deniss and his girlfriend who own the bar really care and take a lot of pride in the service and cocktails they provide. The passion he has was expressed by way he talked about his business .

I found the experience worth every penny. The bar was definitely buzzing and the service was excellent.#

The Drinks

The drinks were truly fantastic. They had a wide selection of cocktails and even though I didn’t get to enjoy that part of the bar they had happy hour which consisted of 2 cocktails for £12.00. They use all freshly prepared ingredients. A staff member spends hours squeezing and cutting all ingredients for the cocktails. This means the drinks taste fresh and the flavours are turely vibrant.

Here were my top 3 cocktails.
