Get Excited Its Date Night: My Top 3 Date Night Ideas

I love date nights, I’m pretty sure I’m not alone. Sometimes though it can get tricky on what things to do together especially after you have been together for some time so why not go back to basics.

Here are some of my oldy but goody date night ideas.

Cooking Together

Cooking is love made visible.

The reason I love cooking together for a date night is simply because it affords you and your partner time to really get to know one and another and talk. With no distraction it really gives you the time to speak whilst having fun whipping up a culinary dish. I find cooking with your partner requires a lot of communicating, ‘darling can you chop up the onion?’, ‘babe the pot is burning on the stove’. Ha ha ha.

Cooking together can also be super romantic and with a little music it can be even more intimate. Just imagine the aroma filling the kitchen with you and your partners cooking. It can be quiet exciting and fun.

It also really allows you the opportunity to collaborate on something together, to work as a team. You will both get great satisfaction and happiness coming from the knowledge that you were able to work together and create something tasty.

The ultimate and primarily goal really is to have a good time and make something beautifully delicious.

A Picnic

You bring your own weather to the picnic.

Much like cooking together picnics are a fantastic way to spend time with your partner. Whilst enjoying the beautiful natural scenic views you will both be surrounded by you can catch up and talk.

Why not pack your favourite foods and drinks and some games that you can play together. This gives you a chance to bond and have fun. You will find as a relationship grows and the years pass by the more demanding life gets and having fun quickly gets swollen up by the pressures of life.

Research shows though that having fun together is such a crucial part of any relationship and can greatly contribute to you happiness so why not have fun on a summers day in the park with a picnic.

 Drinks at a Bar

Drink and dance and shine together.

Okay this is totally different from my other 2 suggestions. I love this because well it involves drinking lol. Who doesn’t enjoy a nice glass of white wine or a cocktail and in your handsome gentlemen’s case a brandy or beer.

It is a known fact that alcohol lows your inhibitions and can really loosen you both up ensuring you focus on letting go and just allowing yourself to be free with that person.  Enjoy a nice chilled atmosphere with a bit of music in the background  find a nice quiet corner enjoy some bar food stare at each other a dark (sometimes candlelit room) and talk over a drink. Ahhhh perfect!

WEEKLY WEDNESDAY MUST HAVE STAPLE ITEM – WHITE SHIRT (2)

White Shirt and Why I Love Them

“I love white shirts because they feel like a security blanket… You can wear them with anything.” – Carolina Herrara

I echo her sentiments exactly.

Staples

As women we have a lot of clothes and most often than not we feel that we never have enough clothes but I’m here to tell you that you can and will feel like you have enough. How?

In recent times a lot of bloggers have spoken about have a capsule closet and I think it’s a great idea having just declottered my wardrobe. I am able to see what I have and what I really need and with a few staple items you can  still look current, sexy, stylish and classy.

Next on my list of staple items is a white shirt. Why? White shirts are a classic. They can be paired with anything. You can name me any style and I can show you how a white shirt can be worked into it. A white shirt bounces light upwards brightening up our face and making us look youthful.

Lets face it a white shirt will never go off season. During the summer you can wear it on its own, short sleeved and made of a light material. In winter you can wear it underneath a cute jumper.

Noteworthy

It is vert important to buy a white shirt that fits. Not any white shirt will do. You want a shirt that fits you perfectly. Not to clingy and not to baggy. You want a white shirt to bridge the gap between business to casual. White shirts are also becoming dressy. No longer do you have that plain boring white shirt but  you can get a white shirt with embroidery, different cuts and lengths. So if you haven’t got one yet go and get your first one now.

Tips

A few things to note when choosing the perfect white shirt:

  1. Seaming
  2. Material
  3. Structured Collar
  4. Shirttail

For me Victoria Beckham has been one of my style icons and has always known how to wear a white shirt well. Check out a few of her great combos below.

So now you should have 2 staple items in your closet.

  1. A great pair of leggings (check out my last Weekly Wednesday Tip here).
  2. A well fitting white shirt.

Weekly Wednesday Must Have Staple Item – Leggings (1)

Hi Guys and Girls,

I know I have been missing for a few months now (my bad!), please insert hand over eyes emojii. Life has just been super busy. I know! I know, I have neglected you all but I am back and in full force and I decided today I am keeping it real casual for you guys.

All Joke Aside…

See what I did there…no well okay shall we just divide straight in to it then. I don’t know about you but as much as I like to dress up in a sexy dress sometimes I just want comfort. What you ask do I find most comfortable to wear out aside from jogging bottoms…drumroll – leggings. Why you ask? Well because there can be super cosy but oh so stylish.

Yes You Heard Right

Yes I said it. Stylish! Comfortable + Sexy = Leggings. How do I come up with that equations.

Well the reason I love leggings so much is because if styled correctly they can be chic and fashionable and completely acceptable to wear in public. Moreover, they are mold able so no mater what your shape is they will work with you when dressed correctly.

Whether its worn under a dress, or perhaps tucked into your boots, or even with a cute top leggings having been around since the 1980’s are all over magazine covers and catwalks because they simple but appealing.

Some Things to Think About

There are a few things I would suggest though to think about before buying any ole leggings and to in a bid to achieve the perfect fit and look.

  1. Material – You really want to be thinking the purpose of the leggings. For instance its crucial to think about the kind of material because no one wants to see the booty guys not even if you have been putting those extra hours in the gm. So say no to it being see-through.
  2. Sizing – Leggings are sized more in small, medium and large. So it really depends on the brand you decide to buy so shop wisely.
  3. Comfort – I would suggest always trying on leggings before buying. Now I know its not something most women do but its so important. It helps you see if its too tight/ itchy and what type of material it is.
How I Pair My Leggings

I usually tend to pair my leggings with white shirt tied to the waist. I can wear it with trainers to achieve a nice casual look and may ear my leather or jeans jacket.

Another look is to wear it with a tee and a nice jacket and some heels to achieve an easy going but sexy level.

Well I hope you learned something today. Comment and let me know if like this post and I will try and do a Weekly Wednesday Must Have Staple Item plus another blog every Sunday. x

My All Time Favourite Makeup Products

Me and Makeup

I love makeup, so much so that I completed a MUA course so I could learn how to apply my makeup properly. It took me about 6 weeks as I was doing it part time but it was so worth it.

I was always so envious of youtubers and instagrammers who had their makeup always on point. Don’t get me wrong I know sometimes filters are at use but still knowing what makeup was best for your face always appealed to me.

Luckily my complexion is quiet even throughout my whole face so I have never really had a problem finding a great foundation. In fact I have been quite lucky that across a few brands I have found some great matches.

Oh Estee Lauder

On my recent trip to NY in fact I popped into Macy’s and went to straight to Estee Lauder to get a colour match. I was so impressed. The shade they picked perfectly matched skin. It felt so smooth and light on my skin almost like I was wearing nothing. I definitely have to go back to get my perfect lipstick and blusher.

I highly recommend giving Estee Lauder colour match a go having always been one of my reliable and favourite bands.

Anyhoo I digressed quiet a lot. The purpose of this blog post is just to share some of my favourite brands and makeup. Enjoy and comment below and let me know your favourite products. I am always looking for recommendations.

Urban Decay – Chill Makeup Setting Spray – Cooling and Hydrating

Estee Lauder – Daywear Multi Protection Anti Oxidant

I love date nights, I’m pretty sure I’m not alone. Sometimes though it can get tricky on what things to do together especially after you have been together for some time  so why don’t you check out my top 3 date night events.

Updated: Skin Care Routine

Introduction

Last year I went to the Stylist Live and although the show as a whole did not blow my mind I was very impressed with the talk that Caroline Hiron gave on skin care. She really helped me to see that our face is one of the most important areas of our body, so it is so important that we look after it.

I don’t know about you all, but I was one of those people who never really gave my face any special attention. I mean I washed it just like I washed the other parts of my body. However, after that talk I was left feeling like I had committed some grave sin. I mean our skin gets a real battering on a daily basis. Think about it, the sun rays, stress, constant makeup application and not to talk about the bad atmosphere. So having a great skin routine is so important.

We all want to look as youthful as possible for as long as possible. Who of us doesn’t feel that inward joy when you tell someone you age and they just cannot believe it. It is a real ego boost.

I cannot lie though, since starting my skin care routine I have fallen victim to laziness on many occasions. I mean I start of with good intentions and then I get home from work and I have so many things to sort out, all I want to do is have a glass of wine or a hot chocolate and some biscuits and curl up on my sofa.

Other nights I would come home from an evening out and grab my face wipes take my makeup and go to sleep. I am sure many of you will relate to that. It is not easy!

After listening to Caroline Hiron talk I realised that I must keep to my regime.

What I Learned

Here is a link to her site. She has a great routine that is easy to follow.

These were my two take away points from her talk:

  1. It is so important to have a morning and nighttime routine. To wash and clean our face. Notice I said wash and clean. These aren’t interchangeable. You need to really clean your face, by taking off all the grime and grease and dirt build up. Like I said above, you won’t imagine the beating our faces go through . So clean your face with a cleanser first then wash your face after and apply a great moisturizer.
  2. Be strict and make sure especially after wearing makeup to take it off properly.

What I Know

One of my favourite products is Micellar water (check out my blog here on the best Micellar water on the market) which many people say is an alternative to face wipes. You can get yourself one from Boots or Superdrugs. I honestly believe it is a lot less harsher on your skin than tap water and also acts as a great cleanser, but don’t stop there. Merely taking off your makeup at night is not enough you need to wash it and hydrate it. So either use a facial wash, cleansing balm or cleansing oil.

Using warm water rather than cold is also a great tip as it is a lot harsher on your skin.

Here is a list of my favourite cleansers:

Bare Minerals – Oil Obsessed Total Cleansing Oil around £18.00

BobbiBrown – Soothing Cleansing Oil around £32.00

L’Oreal Paris – Extraordinary Facial Cleansing Oil around £5.30

Here is a list of my favourite lotions:

Palmer’s Cocoa Butter Formula Lotion

I love Cocoa Butter. It contains vitamin E which is a fatty substance it helps to protect our skin from oxidation which is the over exposure of air which causes the skin to dry out and appear dull.

Vaseline Cocoa Butter Deep Conditioning Lotion

Can you guess why I love this product? Yup that is right it contains cocoa butter. It really helps to even out my complexion and the natural oils helps to keep my skin to moisturized.

What Is In Your Bag?

Introduction

I love reading other blogs but my favourite blogs are the ones where I get an insight into other peoples lives.

Would you not agree, the best blogs are the ones where you read what your favourite blogger has been up to, where they went on holiday, what their favourite books, places to eat and things to wear are?

So I thought why not give you a glimpse into one aspect of my life and show you what is in my bag.

Like every woman, I have several bags depending on where I am going and what I am doing.  So this glimpse is into my day to day work bag.  Although my other bags are slight variations of what is in my bag below.  ↓

So let me not keep you in suspense any longer and lets take a peek into what kind of things I have in my bag.

What Is In My Bag

1 – Rucksack

So let me start by stating that my bag is more of a rucksack than a bag.  If you read one of my earliest blogs (see here), you will see I have/had scoliosis and so I suffer from almost constant back pain. So for me a rucksack is easier to carry as its spreads the weight.  My actual rucksack is grey and sporty and basic.  I had previously purchased a leather one but it broke and I was gutted. Though it was largely my fault for packing to much in it.

2 – Purse

To be honest I don’t really need a purse because nowadays you have have every card possible on your phone. However, I love having a purse, I feel more womanly and grown up knowing I have a purse and that security blanket, should 4G fail me. I have 2 purses- a small basic one, which I use with smaller bags and a larger everyday purse which has all my cards from my Tesco loyalty card to my Nandos and KFC card.  Yes, I am a self-confessed loyalty card holder, things are not worth buying unless I’m building up points!

3 – Umbrella

Why do i keep an umbrella in my bag? Well I live in England! Nuff said.  With how much it rains in the UK, its best to invest in a good umbrealla, and I do love my umbrella. its burgundy and its reinforced which means when those big gust of winds (which have claimed more than  one or two of my brolly’s) try and claim this one, it can handle itself.

4. Painkiller

I always have a pack of painkillers in may bag. Be it paracetamol or ibuprofen when those dreaded headaches, period pains and back aches threaten I am always prepared – just like a girl scout!

5 – Lipbalm

Carex are one my favourite brands of lip balms. With the often cold weather, my lips use to get dry very quickly until I started using these bad boys. Now even if I do say so myself I think I have soft and smooth lips.

6 – Hand Sanitiser

We leave in a world where sadly many nasty things lurk around especially the common cold, so hand sanitiser is so important to me after touching those handrails, pressing those buttons and and pushing open those doors.

7 – Tampons

Well what can I say, mother nature sometimes doesn’t always come when planned,,, no matter what my app might tell me. So its always good to be prepared.

8 – Hand Cream

I mean who doesn’t want soft silky hands. No one wants to shake a hand that feels rough, I for one don’t want my hands being confused with the hands of a carpenter.

9 – Sewing Kit

I may be the only one who has had a button come loose, or a hem come unravelled so having this little nifty kit in my bag is an essential.

10 – Chewing Gum

It is important to have fresh smelling breath especially after eating those foods that can leave your eyes watering after get a whiff of your own breath.

11 – Mobile Phone

Simply a necessity I mean who now a days can leave home without their phone. I could try, but I would fail.

12 – Tissues

No its not for wiping away my tears, well maybe sometimes, you know after telling or hearing your girlfriends sad heart rendering breakup or may be sharing news of that impending engagement.

13 – Headphones

I have a semi long train journey so I love to watch shows when i am on the go and when I am at work and need to focus, listening to music helps me maintain that focus.

14 – Make Up

I don’t usually wear makeup to work as I am really working on having clear and healthy skin. But there are those days where I am feeling very tired and it shows on my face so that little concealer or foundation comes in handy now and again.

15 – Body spray

I have always loved bath and body works but we don’t have it in the UK sadly. So I stocked up when I went to New York.  I currently have the coconut one alongside the Ted Baker spray in my bag.

16 – Lunch Box

Well a woman needs to eat and the area I work leaves me with very little choice of places to go, so I am now in the habit of making lunch daily.

Every great story started with cocktails…

Life is like a cocktail, made up for the most part of sweet things, tinged with a dash of bitters. We must drain it to the dregs to get at the cherry, just as we must live a full and rounded life to know all its pleasures. – Edgar Guest

I love cocktails. I mean who doesn’t right? So much so I use to have a lot of cocktail party’s back in my hay day but it consisted of the same cocktail over and over again the reliable but oh so sweet strawberry daiquiri.

Having been to many bars and I was frequently let down by the quality of cocktails. The drinks didn’t taste fresh, refreshing and to often they all tasted alike. I wanted to find somewhere that excited my taste buds.

My sister had the pleasure of attending a few cocktail making classes with her work and had often told me it was something that I too had to experience and so began my search for somewhere new, something new.

First Impressions

Menu was beautifully presented.

I had heard so many great things about the Cocktail Embassy in Crystal Palace so I began to research for myself and check some reviews out. The more I researched about the bar the more I fell in love with it. The website was so simple and to the point but the menu was so intricate and unique.

Shocoata – ‘smooth, creamy and awakening’.

I decided to make a booking to see what the fuss was about and noticed that they also offered a cocktail making class. Deciding to kill 2 birds with 1 stone I mace a booking for myself and my sister.

The Venue

When you first enter the premises you will be fooled into thinking it is a small and very basic bar but when you sit down and slowly begin to relax you start to realise that from the very layout to the bar down to the glass ware everything has been carefully and expertly picked and placed.

The bar is very stylish and classy but could compete with any up town London bar.

The bar wasn’t packed when we first went there but primarily that was due to the fact our class was early in the evening.

The Staff

We were greeted by, who we later found to be, the owner of the bar Deniss. Both Deniss and his staff were friendly and experienced at their craft. The cocktail making class was conducted in their downstairs bar which later turned into a mini club.

The lesson was indepth, fun and the cocktails were amazing. The bar tender Dobrita was very friendly and very talented at his job. You could tell he thoroughly loved his job.

You can also tell that Deniss and his girlfriend who own the bar really care and take a lot of pride in the service and cocktails they provide. The passion he has was expressed by way he talked about his business .

I found the experience worth every penny. The bar was definitely buzzing and the service was excellent.#

The Drinks

The drinks were truly fantastic. They had a wide selection of cocktails and even though I didn’t get to enjoy that part of the bar they had happy hour which consisted of 2 cocktails for £12.00. They use all freshly prepared ingredients. A staff member spends hours squeezing and cutting all ingredients for the cocktails. This means the drinks taste fresh and the flavours are turely vibrant.

Here were my top 3 cocktails.
